What is the best piece of advice you received, who gave it to you, and why was it so great? (situation)

Well, to put something here, even if it is the only one currently coming to mind... My high school chem teacher (ah, Mr. Murray) gave the great advice that during my freshman year at college, if the door to my room is closed, I should either be outside of it or sleeping.
